Written by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty in 1958, the song was originally recorded by The Crickets (with Holly) on Brunswick Records but failed to chart. Ronstadt’s version marks her second successful Holly cover, following “That’ll Be the Day” in 1976.

The B-side was “Lo Siento Mi Vida.” Ronstadt performed the song regularly in concert, with live versions capturing its upbeat spirit. It has appeared on compilations including The Essential Linda Ronstadt and remains a staple in 1970s playlists.
The arrangement keeps the original’s spirit while adding 1970s polish—tight production and Ronstadt’s precise phrasing that made the track radio-ready. Critics praised how she turned a modest 1958 release into a bright, accessible hit without losing its charm.
